Trichomoniasis testing
Trichomoniasis cannot be diagnosed by how discharge looks or smells. Testing on a sample from the infected site is the only reliable route.

How it is tested
Modern testing detects the parasite's genetic material in a vaginal swab or a urine sample. The at-home Visby test uses a self-collected vaginal swab and reports trichomoniasis alongside chlamydia and gonorrhea.
What results mean
- Positive: prescription treatment from a clinician, with partners treated at the same time.
- Negative: if symptoms continue, see a clinician — other conditions cause the same picture.
Testing partners
Because reinfection is common, treating only one partner tends to fail. Tell recent partners so they can be tested and treated.

Frequently asked questions
- Can a clinician diagnose trichomoniasis by looking?
- No. An exam may raise suspicion, but laboratory or point-of-care testing is needed to confirm it.
- Can people with a penis be tested?
- Yes, through a clinician. Diagnik's at-home option covers people with a vagina only.
