At-home trichomoniasis test
Trichomoniasis is the third infection covered by the Visby Women's Sexual Health Test, which reads a self-collected vaginal swab at home in about 30 minutes.
What trichomoniasis is
Trichomoniasis is caused by a parasite, Trichomonas vaginalis, rather than a bacterium or a virus. It is one of the most common curable sexually transmitted infections, and the CDC notes that most people who have it do not have symptoms.
Symptoms that lead people to test
- Discharge that is frothy, yellow-green or has an unusual smell.
- Itching, burning or soreness around the vulva.
- Discomfort when urinating or during sex.
- Nothing noticeable at all.
How the at-home test works
- Self-collect a vaginal swab.

- Read the trichomoniasis, chlamydia and gonorrhea results after about 30 minutes.
After your result
- Positive: trichomoniasis is curable with prescription medication. Partners usually need treating at the same time to avoid passing it back.
- Negative: if symptoms persist, see a clinician — other conditions cause similar discharge.
- Invalid: no result can be read; the device did not run.
Important limitations
- For people with a vagina only, single use.
- A screening result, not a diagnosis or a prescription.
- Does not test for HIV or syphilis.
