Step by step
- Wash your hands and clean a fingertip with the alcohol pad.
- Use the sterile lancet included in the kit.
- Apply one drop of blood to the test device as the card shows.
- Read the result after about 15 minutes.
After the result
- Reactive: contact a clinician for confirmation and staging. Syphilis is curable.
- Non-reactive: retest if the exposure was very recent, and see a clinician if symptoms persist.
- Invalid: no control line means no result — use a new test.
Limitations to keep in mind
- A screening result, not a diagnosis or a stage.
- Cannot distinguish current from treated past infection.
- Covers syphilis only.
